Two of the best directories that are available in today’s market belong to Yahoo and DMOZ. They can be expensive, but it can be money well spent. At last check Yahoo was $299 dollars, but the cost was worth the benefit. Other directories that deserve to be mentioned are Skaffe, Business.com, JoeAnt and Librarians Internet Index.

If you choose to go with DMOZ you will find that it is a free directory. If you have a great site you will probably do well using DMOZ. The site has volunteers that run it and its editors are required to submit your work or even look at your website. There is even a chance that you could become an editor with DMOZ. As long as you aren’t affiliated with any commercial establishments or an SEO firm you could become one.

DMOZ has built a superior reputation and that is one reason it has a good value from the search engines. The algorithm of a major search engine called a Trust Rank lists DMOZ as a seed page. This means that they have a very high link value.

Yahoo will cost some money, but it can help your ranking. Without it you may still be part of their search results; however, it will improve your ranking even more if you do. Google, a major search engine, likes the Yahoo Directory so this is another benefit.

One drawback that can be seen from the Yahoo Directory is that they list businesses by the number of links that it has. If you don’t have a lot of links on your site it may be worthwhile to build more before you invest in their directory. You could take a while to reach the upper areas with fewer links.

Don’t discount the value of being in the Chamber of Commerce directory where you have your business. Any link that you can get will help get your website noticed. Once you have decided to join a directory be sure that you keep your information current. Only high quality search engine optimization content will keep people visiting your site.

They want the latest on what you have to sell. Becoming an expert in your field will also help to build traffic and links. Then buying into a directory will be another step in increasing your business revenue. It takes many different strategies to build a business on the internet, and choosing a directory wisely with SEO is just one of them.
